Who am I?

I’ve been with Dream Big Disabilities for over a year now but my journey started at the tender age of 16 when I worked as personal carer/ Support worker for people with disability in the United Kingdom. My inspiration to work in the community sector primarily stemmed from having a nephew born with Cerebral Palsy and personally seeing the trials and tribulations our family went through to ensure that he received care and support. This was in the days where listening to individual’s perspectives were largely ignored and people were made to feel grateful for whatever supports, no matter how unsuitable were provided.

This led me towards a career path where I wanted to be the voice for those who felt that they didn’t have one, and knowing whole heartedly that I could contribute to change.

I have the kind of face where people often comment that they think we’ve met before. Being a ‘people person’, I thrive on interacting with people from all walks of life and listening to everyone’s unique stories.

I’ve always worked collaboratively with participants, their families, staff and service providers in Day programs, Supported Accommodation, Outreach, Community access, post school services and working with participants who require a specialised skill set in addressing behaviours of concern.

I’ve also been on the other side of the fence being employed as a Union Representative advocating for better outcomes for staff in their work environments. With great pride, I relished my role as a Team Leader being instrumental in rolling out the NDIS scheme across the South East Sydney region in partnership with St Vincent de Paul and the NDIA.

The Support Coordinator position allows me to tap into prior knowledge and lived experience of disability to ensure that your voice will be heard. Your thoughts and ideas will be my guide as we implement your NDIS plan. You can be assured that when services aren’t working out as you imagined or just don’t “gel”, I will keep looking for better services to meet your need.
